5 AM Groove
In Quincy's book, he wrote about how creativity is heightened when we are in state of near unconsciousness. This explains why Quincy carries a notepad or recorder with him to capture musical ideas, especially when barely conscious.
The main melodic theme on 5 AM Groove came to me one early summer morning at around 5 AM (hence the title). Barely awaked, I head into my studio to record this 8-bar melody. This simple melody is what you hear at the start of the tune. I added the bass line, beats and layers of secondary melodies to build up the arrangement. The guitar and trumpet section came much later when a transition was needed to bridge into the end outro section.
My idea for the outro was to drop each instrument until only the main melodic theme remains in the end. I got this idea from watching Morrissey perform the song "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" live on Youtube. To end of the song performance, each band member leaving the stage one at a time until only the keyboard player left to end the song. I figured this to be a great way to close 5 AM Groove, adding the reverse cymbal for the abrupt ending.
I am proud of 5 AM Groove and hope you like it as well.
